Welcome — protect your crypto from day one
When you open your Trezor box, the most important step starts online at Trezor.io/Start. This official onboarding portal walks you through every stage of initialization so your private keys remain secure and your wallet is ready for use.
Why Trezor.io/Start matters
Cryptocurrency unlocks financial freedom but also introduces security risks. Hardware wallets like Trezor protect your private keys by keeping them offline. The setup matters: a correct initialization prevents exposure to phishing, malware, and misconfiguration. Trezor.io/Start provides the official, secure steps to get started.
Step-by-step: Get started in minutes
- Unbox your Trezor: Check the sealed packaging and included accessories — device, USB cable, and recovery cards.
- Visit Trezor.io/Start: Always use the official URL — never a third-party link.
- Connect your device: Plug in via USB and follow on-screen prompts to begin.
- Install firmware: New devices often require firmware installation; the portal guides you securely through this.
Create and protect your recovery seed
The recovery seed is the single most critical element of your backup. It’s a list of 12–24 words generated by your Trezor that can restore your wallet if the device is lost or damaged.
- Write the seed by hand on the supplied cards — never store it digitally.
- Do not take photos or type the seed into a device connected to the internet.
- Store the written seed in a secure, offline place like a safe.
Set a PIN — a second line of defense
After creating your recovery seed, choose a PIN. The PIN protects your device from unauthorized access even if it’s physically taken. Pick something memorable but not obvious and never share it with anyone.
Connect to Trezor Suite
With initialization complete, manage your assets through Trezor Suite — the official desktop and web app. Suite lets you send & receive crypto, check balances, and monitor your portfolio while ensuring your private keys remain on the device.
